About the opportunity
This is an impactful position helping an already successful and growing contractor make the most of all the opportunities coming their way. Your day to day will see you working to deliver comprehensive, detailed and ultimately competitive tenders. Reporting to the Estimating Manager with interaction with the Director, you’ll work with an established support team to target Civil projects in Southeast Queensland.
A normal day in this role
- First principle estimating to meet quality standards and agreed timelines
- Liaising and negotiating with subcontractors and suppliers regarding your tenders
- Managing the bid process and supporting colleagues to present tenders in best light
- Working with colleagues, subcontractors, and suppliers to unlock value and advantages.
- Giving your insights and advice on practical construction including methodologies and program.
- Analysing risks and opportunities to improve and sharpen estimates.
- Participating in pre- and post-tender negotiations to secure successful outcomes.
- Apply your problem solving skills and experience to solve challenges and enhance methodologies.
- Networking with contacts to understand the market, prices and any new players
Your Skills and Attributes
- Tertiary Qualifications in Civil Engineering or similar an advantage
- 5+ years of civil estimating in Southeast Queensland.
- First principles estimating particularly in Earthworks.
- Strong capability utilising Pronamics Expert Estimation
- Able to apply an innovative approach to “out Engineer” the opposition not just be cheap.
- An ability to help the team achieve corporate and client objectives
- Strong planning, reporting and analytical expertise
- Relationship management, conflict management and resolution and problem-solving expertise, with an ability to think outside the box

Subdivisions & Local Government infrastructure projects including bulk and detailed earthworks, civil works for residential, industrial and commercial developments and local government projects including road and service upgrades.
#1 Civil works for Frucor Suntory’s $400M multi-beverage facility in Swanbank – Cut to fill, stormwater and detailed Earthworks - $10M
#2 Pimpama Train Station – external Civil Works and Carparks (TMR Spec) - $8.5M
- Pimpama is one of three sites – including Hope Island and Merrimac – where stations will be built on the Gold Coast line as part of Cross River Rail.
- Key station features include five accessible car parks, through-lifts on each platform, a 40-bike lock-up enclosure and a pedestrian overpass.
- Larger taxi and kiss’n’ride bays;
- Assistance animal toileting facilities.
- Tactile boarding matts at accessible boarding points; and
- Improved location and layout for accessible and ambulant toilets.
- In response to community feedback, approximately 380 car parks that were going to be delivered in two stages will now be delivered on opening day.
- There is also provision for 200 extra car parks in the future to accommodate forecasted population growth.
- Early works and site establishment have been undertaken in late 2022, and major construction will commence in early 2023 and finish late 2024
