About the Role
Reporting to Manager Field Services Substations Test, the Senior Commissioning Engineer is responsible for ensuring substation primary plant and secondary systems are commissioned in accordance with appropriate policies and procedures.
The role provides a professional technical consultancy and management service to internal and external customers through the application of well-developed engineering capability.
About You
You have a proven ability to influence project outcomes and resolve technical problems through technical innovation and utilising advanced teamwork, communication, and inter-personal skills. Demonstrated knowledge of the safety requirements associated with High Voltage substations and associated substation plant commissioning.
Responsibilities:
- Manage the commissioning and integration of substation, reticulation, and OHL projects through provision of testing and commissioning services by internal staff and external contractors, ensuring procedural compliance and risk analysis components are delivered efficiently, within scope.
- Provides professional engineering advice relating to substation commissioning and maintenance requiring proficiency in engineering techniques and methods, which may be subject to review.
- Lead and manage commissioning activities from start to finish, ensuring adherence to project schedules and budgets.
- Develop commissioning plans, procedures, and protocols in collaboration with project stakeholders.
- Conduct system verification, functional testing, and performance testing of [specific systems or equipment].
- Troubleshoot and resolve technical issues during commissioning and startup phases.
- Coordinate with engineering, construction, and operations teams to ensure smooth handover of systems to clients.
- Prepare complex engineering reports, technical documentation subject to review.
- Implement safety protocols and ensure compliance with regulatory standards throughout the commissioning process.
Requirements:
- Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering discipline
- RPEQ Electrical
- Current C Class Driver’s Licence
- Proven experience (5+ years) in commissioning with a detailed knowledge of 11kV-275kV primary plant.
- Project management skills in the management of substation, reticulation, and transmission line projects.
- Provide estimates for project works and coordinating activities with numerous other work groups to meet project safety, cost, quality, and time targets.
- Strong leadership and project management skills with the ability to manage multidisciplinary teams.
- Excellent technical knowledge and understanding of commissioning processes, procedures, and standards.
- Proficiency in using commissioning tools and software.
- Effective communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to liaise confidently with clients and stakeholders.
